University Games

Bond University has a rich tradition at the Northern University Games (NUGs) and the Australian University Games (AUGs). Having won a multiple of medals and the Population Cup at AUGs in 2009, Bond is always looking to repeat past successes and strive for improvement in the future.

Australian University Games

The Australian University Games (AUG), usually held in late September, is the premier event on the intervarsity calendar every year. Bond University has a proud history of success at the AUG, the most successful clinching the Doug Ellis Trophy at the 2009 AUG, reflecting Bond University’s status as, pound-for-pound, the best university in Australia for sport.

A range of sports are offered, including AFL, Beach Volleyball, Golf, Netball, Rugby Sevens, Swimming, and Tennis – just to name a few. AUG features a rich social program, with venues and themed events on offer every night. It is an excellent opportunity to socialise not only with fellow ‘Bondies’, but also a chance to meet new people from around the country.

The 2010 Games were held in Perth from 26th September to 1st October. Bond University sent a team of 60-plus athletes over, who all performed admirably. Congratulations to the following medallists:

  • Rugby Sevens team – 3rd
  • Women’s Golf team – 3rd.

Northern University Games

The Northern University Games (NUG), held in early July, is the regional intervarsity games that serve as a prelude and a qualifying round to the AUG in September. NUG has a more limited sporting program compared at AUG, but there are still a number of sports on offer, with a just-as-vibrant social calendar on offer.
